A Vast, Hand-Built World
Farm villages, windswept highlands, deep woods and drowned ruins — a continent made zone by zone, with roads worth fearing and horizons worth chasing. No fast-travel shortcuts: the journey is the game.
You’ve waited decades for a world
this vast, this unforgiving.
A new story begins.

ex·or·di·um — n. the beginning of a story
Remember when an MMO felt like a world? When the road between towns was dangerous, gear was earned, and the strangers you met along the way became friends for years?
We never stopped missing it. So a tiny, stubborn team of us set out to build it again — not a remaster, not a retread, but a new world called Atherra: expansive and beautiful, gritty and unforgiving.
Exordium is where the new story begins.
Danger means something. Distance means something. So does every level you claw your way to.
Smelt, smith, gather, craft — then carry it home. A home that is truly, stubbornly yours.
Guilds, rivalries, reputations. Out here, the name you make is the only one that counts.
The classic heart of an MMORPG, beating underneath it all.
Farm villages, windswept highlands, deep woods and drowned ruins — a continent made zone by zone, with roads worth fearing and horizons worth chasing. No fast-travel shortcuts: the journey is the game.
Hand-written storylines told by named characters with their own voices. Your standing with the folk you help — or cross — changes what they offer you and how they greet you.
Five-player dungeons and large raids with bosses that have phases, telegraphs and tempers. Tanks hold, healers sweat, and the loot is the kind people remember.
Tab-target combat with real weight. Every class owns a mechanic nobody else has — the warrior’s adrenaline, the mage’s socketed conduit, the priest’s prayers, the ranger’s quiver, with more classes to come — and gear that is earned, not handed out.
Hands-on crafting where you react to the forge, not a progress bar. Mining, herbalism, fishing, farming, brewing, hunting and butchery — and the money runs that connect them.
Mounts with saddlebags, gliders for the high places, and boats for the water between. A world this big needs more than one way across it.
Type to an innkeeper the way you’d talk to a friend, and she answers in her own words and her own voice. The people of Atherra know their town, remember your face, and keep their secrets. You’ll learn the world from them — not from a wiki.
Atherra isn’t a theme park. It’s a place.
Beneath the questing and the dungeons runs something most MMOs never attempt: a living civic layer. Towns have laws — and players write them. Markets have stalls — and players run them. The roads have guards — and players walk the beat. None of it is scripted. It is built from a handful of simple rules that combine into stories no designer could write.
Your gear and your bags are always safe. Risk comes from what you carry and what you do — never from your character.

Elections, verdicts, guild wars, scandals. The town’s story, written by the people living in it.
Same world. Same rules. A few of the lives you could lead — or all of them.
The classic life
Take the road out, help the farmers, clear the woods, and come back with a name. Run dungeons with four friends and raids with many more. Learn a trade, join a guild, make enemies worth having.
The sandbox never touches you unless you reach for it. Quest your whole life and no law, no guard and no thief will ever cost you a thing.
The money runs
Economy goods are physical and local: Wayhearth’s ore is in Wayhearth. Moving it is real work, and real work pays. Load a cart, pass the checkpoints, and sell where the price is better.
Every town is a market. The road between them is the margin.
The thin gold line
The Watch is a career. Pass the academy, draw your rank’s kit from the duty locker, and walk the beat with your own class abilities. Rank is earned through service, and the top post is appointed by the town’s elected Steward.
Off duty, you’re just another adventurer. On duty, you are the law — and criminals are free to test that.
The other ledger
Every lawful loop has a shadow. Run moonshine past the checkpoint in a hidden compartment, poach the Crown’s deer, lift a purse on Market Green. Crime is never against other players — it’s against the town, and the town bites back.
Push far enough and you become an Enemy of the Crown: wanted on sight, pilloried in public, and the one case where the headsman is allowed.
The office
One office per town, a fixed term, and one vote per player, cast in person. The Steward sets taxes and tolls, chooses which laws the town enforces, appoints the Watch Captain, pardons the deserving and spends the treasury on public works.
Govern well and the carters, shopkeepers and guards keep you in office. Govern badly and they’ll find someone else.
These are only a few of the ways to live in Atherra, and none of them is a class or a choice you make once. Keep a stall by day, walk the beat on a Watch shift, run a cart of moonshine past the checkpoint at night, and stand for office when you’ve made enough friends — or ignore every bit of it and simply go adventuring. We’re building a world for people to live in, their own way.
The lines are drawn. Where you stand is up to you.

On the horizon
Two guilds that both agree to war fight it anywhere outside the great cities, and the deaths are real. Either side can declare peace — and concede. Every declaration and every surrender is a matter of public record, and the Gazette keeps score.
The two banners will compete for control of whole zones. Keeps and castles are taken in instanced sieges: breach the gates with siege engines, capture the grounds area by area against the defenders and their garrison, and bring down the commander. Whoever holds the keep governs the surrounding territory — its laws, its taxes, its tolls.
